Most ENG instructors are required to teach three classes of English 101 in the fall term and three classes of English 102 in the spring. English 101 and 102 require students to read and analyze academic texts, plan and compose academic essays, engage in independent research projects, plan and deliver oral presentations, and develop their language and academic skills proficiency as learners of a foreign language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ENG program also offers more advanced EAP and ESP courses. These courses provide students with the skills required to understand philosophical texts, communicate effectively in business settings, and develop language awareness and presentation skills as graduate students. Some instructors may be asked to teach these classes in lieu of English 101 and 102.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;a&nbsp;master\u2019s degree or PhD in English, rhetoric and composition, TEFL, TESOL, or education<br>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;a minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience at university level<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who also have experience in content-based instruction, course design and delivery will have a distinct advantage. provide quality tuition to develop students\u2019 academic skills, language competence and breadth of knowledge<br>2. to design and develop high quality courses and materials<br>3. to take responsibility for the fair and consistent assessment of students<br>4. to ensure professional standards at all times<br>5. to collaborate with ENG colleagues and contribute to a positive team dynamic<br>6. to collaborate with faculty members to meet ENG aims and support departmental aims<br>7. to collaborate with colleagues and units to meet Department and University aims<br>8. to contribute to the development of high quality tuition throughout the University<br>9. to undertake specific job-related duties \/ research to contribute to the development of ENG and the Program as a whole<br>10. to teach about 15 to 20&nbsp;hours a week<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Specifically:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. to provide quality tuition to develop students\u2019 academic skills, language competence and<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; breadth of knowledge by&nbsp;<\/strong><br><strong><br><\/strong>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;providing students with a clear course outline package which ensures students understand course expectations,&nbsp;requirements,<br>objectives and assessment<br>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;teaching in a professional, open, encouraging manner and developing a positive relationship with all students, irrespective<br>of their level or approach to learning<br>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;establishing a stimulating, challenging, interactive, academic learning environment which also has clear expectations and&nbsp;standards of behavior<br>&nbsp;\u2022&nbsp;providing lessons which:<br>\u2022 meet course, ENG, Department and University objectives<br>\u2022 are linked into a coherent learning program<br>\u2022 are prepared and sequenced appropriately to meet student needs<br>\u2022 cater for different learning styles through varying teaching formats, materials and technologies<br>\u2022 are challenging and stimulating in pace and cater for the range of levels of students in a course<br>\u2022 encourage student involvement and student responsibility for their own learning<br>\u2022 address remedial needs effectively<br>\u2022 prepare students appropriately for assessment of learning<br>\u2022&nbsp;providing high quality feedback to all students in written and tutorial form such that students have a clear view of their&nbsp;progress at all times<br>\u2022&nbsp;being open and available to students for consultation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. to design and develop high quality courses and materials by<br><\/strong>\u2022&nbsp;participating in the regular review of unit and ENG level expectations and objectives<br>\u2022&nbsp;selecting and designing materials for courses to develop appropriate academic skills and language<br>\u2022&nbsp;selecting stimulating 101 and 102 course content to reflect ENG and University objectives of broadening student\u2019 education outside their<br>chosen field of study<br>\u2022&nbsp;designing courses which incorporate teaching methodologies and approaches that will stimulate students\u2019 and provide &nbsp;variety of format<br>\u2022&nbsp;producing course plans that clearly outline weekly content, materials, language and skills objectives<br>\u2022&nbsp;continually evaluating course topics, content, materials and methodologies<br>\u2022&nbsp;adapting courses in light of evaluation, student performance, student feedback, unit feedback and departmental feedback,&nbsp;as appropriate<br>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to the development of all ENG courses by providing feedback on shared courses and shared materials<br>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;balancing the need to develop courses over more than one semester with the need to create new and stimulating courses&nbsp; for the<br>teacher and students<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. to take responsibility for the fair and consistent assessment of students by<br><\/strong>\u2022&nbsp;designing assessment of learning tasks that abide by the agreed course objectives, course requirements and agreed team&nbsp;standards for<br>that course<br>\u2022&nbsp;providing students with quality feedback on all assessments of learning<br>\u2022&nbsp;designing courses and lessons to facilitate students in the successful completion of assessments of learning<br>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to the review and updating of course objectives and requirements on a regular basis<br>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to assessment design meetings for each course by considering the design of each assessment task carefully,<br>completing draft assessment tasks and providing detailed feedback to the group as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;maintaining professional levels of confidentiality concerning all assessment issues and tasks<br>\u2022&nbsp;participating in the invigilation of exams and assessments as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to regular small group standardization meetings and contributing to exam standardization meetings,&nbsp;as necessary<br>\u2022&nbsp;engaging in cross-marking schemes to ensure consistency of grading across the team<br>\u2022&nbsp;abiding by agreed grading and standardization in the marking of assessment tasks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. to ensure professional standards at all times by<br><\/strong>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to students\u2019 personal development through the promotion of a suitable learning environment both inside and&nbsp;outside the<br>classroom<br>\u2022&nbsp;maintaining all ENG required records in a professional manner<br>\u2022&nbsp;maintaining an open-door policy regarding classroom visits and participating in observations and sharing practice with&nbsp;colleagues in an<br>open, supportive manner<br>\u2022&nbsp;liaising with colleagues on professional matters: course development \/ lesson planning \/ materials development \/ testing and&nbsp;criteria \/<br>assignments set \/ student progress \/ marking of assignments<br>\u2022&nbsp;providing cover or adjusting teaching schedules in order to support absent colleagues<br>\u2022&nbsp;completing all administrative requests and procedures in a timely and professional manner<br>\u2022&nbsp;adhering to and enforcing university rules<br>\u2022&nbsp;participating fully in ENG meetings and other meetings as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;taking an active part in personal professional development<br>\u2022&nbsp;participating fully in decisions are communicated to the ENG Director<br>\u2022&nbsp;ensuring connected courses meet ENG objectives and compliment faculty courses as appropriate<br>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;addressing collaboration problems as they arise and in a constructive manner<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7. to collaborate with all colleagues to meet Department and University aims by<br><\/strong>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to liaison activities, as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;actively participating in the Program and University level developmental activities, as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;participating in, supporting and contributing to institutional and university conferences and symposia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8. to contribute to the development of high quality tuition throughout the university by<br><\/strong>\u2022&nbsp;contributing to the maintenance of high standards of tuition in class,&nbsp; in the program and the departments and in the University<br>as a development<br>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;contributing to new initiatives and projects related to quality tuition as required<br>\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;contributing to training and developmental workshops \/
